Juris Doctor (J.D.) in Law University of Ottawa, Canada 2011–2013 i.B.A. in English Linguistics, French Lit and Japanese York University 2004–2009
At the moment, I love APA because it's widely used in the programs I completed at the University of Cambridge.
After obtaining a degree in Linguistics, I taught English in Japan and really enjoyed helping others to express themselves clearly and concisely. I later came back to Canada and became a lawyer, but I always welcomed the opportunity to help people edit documents in a wide variety of topics. Being an editor combines my knowledge in linguistics and experience as an English teacher with my interest in reading about different topics and my love for polishing other people’s writing!
In high school and college, l proofread essays, thesis, and resumes. I also worked as a tutor. As an English teacher in Japan, it was so satisfying to watch the students improve and gain confidence, not just in writing and English, but in all areas of their lives. As a lawyer, I spent my days drafting pleadings and contracts, researching and solving legal problems, and representing clients in courts. Being an editor is the perfect job for me, as it combines my knowledge, skills, and interests.
I get so much satisfaction from seeing a piece of writing and message translate more smoothly and professionally, knowing that the person who wrote it will also gain more confidence. I have first hand experience in MLA (linguistics degree), the McGill Guide to Legal Citations (law school and legal career), and APA (creative writing programs at the University of Cambridge, UK). I am also proficient in the Chicago and Harvard referencing styles.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
When I'm not proofreading, I'm most likely cooking, cleaning the house, reading, drinking tea or wine, or traveling.
First, I read through it to get a feel for the formality, tone, and author's style. Then I go through my editing checklist. Finally, I read the whole document backward.
